Only offered at the Bridgewater Location
This group lesson is a 30 minute class for children 5 years and over who know some basics of swimming but would like to learn in a group setting. They will learn skills such as rotary breathing, the formation of freestyle and backstroke, and will start the basics of breaststroke. They must be able to swim at least half the pool before they can move to the advanced group.
Only offered at the Bridgewater Location This group lesson is a 30 minute class for children 5 years and over who know the intermediate basics of swimming and would like to learn breaststroke and diving in a group setting. They will learn skills such as the timing and specifics of breaststroke, some butterfly and continue to work on freestyle and backstroke. They must be able to swim the length of the pool before moving to preteam.
PRE-TEAM This is an introductory course that will begin to prepare students for a swim team. Skills to be taught (may be adapted depending on levels of participants and are not listed in any particular order). Butterfly, circle swimming pacing/procedures, elements to a work out, diving (on and off blocks), open and flip turns, streamlining, stroke efficiency/technique, body positioning and other skills deemed appropriate. They will be asked to swim short distances such as 50 yards continuously. (More or less depending on participant levels) If needed by the majority in class, we will re-teach the basic strokes (free-style, backstroke, and breastroke) before moving on to the other skills listed above.
ADVANCED PRE-TEAM This is a higher level of the pre-team course. It is still an introductory course to a swim team, however we will be “fine-tuning” skills rather than introducing skills. (Unless a need arises) Students should have a base knowledge on the skills that are taught in the Pre-Team class. They will be given drill work to improve their technique on each stroke and will be asked to swim longer distances. They will learn to use the pace clock in light workouts and other swim team procedures. Again, if needed by the majority, needed skills will be re-taught.
PRIVATE LESSONS Your instructor will personalize the swimming achievement plan developed by Starfish Aquatics Club, Inc., based on the needs of each student on an individual and personal level. Attainable goals will be set on the first day and worked on through-out the session. (Ribbon levels will no longer be used.) A progress report/evaluation will be given at the end of the session for each child.
SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS Semi-private lessons are for families with multiple children, or a friend at the same level of ability that wish to do lessons together with the same instructor. Both children MUST be at the same level regardless of their age (i.e. children who are a year apart in age or twins - they still must be at the same level of ability). If we determine that the swimmers are at different levels after the first lesson, we will separate them and try to offer a private lesson for each child instead. We do not match two children for a semi-private lesson. Matching of swimming partners for semi-private lessons must be done by the families enrolling. As with the private lessons, your instructor will personalize the swimming achievement plan for both students based on their individual needs. Attainable goals will also be set and worked on through-out the session.
SPECIAL NEEDS PRIVATE LESSONS These lessons are geared towards children with special needs who enjoy the water. As with the private lessons, the instructor will personalize the swimming acheivement plan based on the capabilities of the child. The instructor will try to set attainable goals with the student and work on them throughout the session.
PARENT AND CHILD EXPLORATION CLASS This parent and child class is geared towards children 2 and under who are getting familiar with the water. The child and parent will play games and participate in activities in an instructor guided program to enhance their introduction to the pool. Parent and child will participate in the program together and must wear bathing suits. Offered on select mornings. Call 973-443-8825 for more information.
ADULT SWIMMING MASTERS PROGRAM The Masters Swimming Program is geared towards adults who are interested in swimming as a fitness program. This is NOT swimming lessons. You must have swimming experience (i.e. competitive swimmer, triathlete, enjoy swimming with other individuals). This program will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30-8:30am.
